Group Departures

If you’re looking to experience the best of a place without worrying about managing logistics or wrangling maps, then our guided Group Departures are the perfect choice for you. In the care of our “best in the business” local guides, you’ll be perfectly positioned to experience the best of a place—with an intimate group of travel companions to share in the adventure. Since our trips boast a 1:7 guide-to-guest ratio, with two guides leading each group of eight or more, you’ll have plenty of one-on-one time with guides and fellow guests alike, perfect opportunities to learn about the local lore, history, and culture that make destinations come alive. And you never have to worry about what’s included: we handle virtually every breakfast, lunch, and dinner (except where clearly noted), along with all gratuities, portages, and snacks on the trail. Private Departures

Looking for a private trip? Our Personal departures are the way to go. We’re happy to turn any of our Guided Walking trips and most Safaris into a unique travel experience just for you and your handpicked travel companions. A great way to celebrate special occasions, mark birthdays, enjoy a romantic getaway, or simply savor the pleasure of traveling at your own pace, Personal departures are a breeze to book: simply pick a destination, departure date, and companions—we’ll do the rest.

Solo Travel

 

Guests love traveling solo with us. Along with the comfort and camaraderie they enjoy on our Guided Walking trips, Safaris, and Small Boat cruises, we offer a number of incentives to make sure our single travelers never feel like they’re on their own.
Single Supplement
First, lets be up front with you: because our trip prices are calculated based on double occupancy, we charge a Single Supplement to cover our costs. This is standard practice across the travel industry, and we’re proud to say that our rates are among the lowest in the business. Also, you’ll be happy to know that we occasionally run promotions in which we waive the Single Supplement on selected departures.

Single-Share Program
We don’t think it’s fair that most travel companies automatically charge you more just because you choose to travel on your own. That’s why we created our Single-Share Program, which allows some guests to avoid the Single Supplement entirely. It works like this: When you sign up for a Guided Walking trip or Small Ship voyage and opt into the program, we’ll make every effort to find a same-gender roommate for you. If we find one, we’ll waive the Single Supplement. Even if we don’t find one on our Guided Walking trips, we’ll waive the Single Supplement provided you reserve at least 91 days prior to the trip’s start date (except where designated). That just seems fair to us.

Solo Surcharge
It might seem unfair to charge an additional Solo Surcharge on top of a Single Supplement, and we avoid doing so as much as possible. However, in certain extreme circumstances—for instance, when we must arrange private transportation for just you and there are no other ways to absorb the cost—we will charge an additional Single Surcharge. This fee may apply to certain non-group Safaris, Self-Guided adventures, or Selects; please contact us if you have any questions.
