Imagination soars to new heights in the towering reality of the Peruvian Andes. Come, and let the breathtaking scenery, engaging history, and exquisite colonial architecture work their magic. Arequipa, the “White City” overlooked by snowcapped volcanoes, is Peru’s most elegant city, and a window into Spanish influence on indigenous culture. Colca Canyon, the planet’s deepest, dizzies with its drop of over 13,000 feet, as Andean condors soar above its amazing heights and ancient terraced slopes. Save room in your travel bag—the markets of this “world capital of alpaca” are filled with hand-knit garments of the famously soft wool.
You may need the extra warmth at Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. At 12,500 feet along the Bolivian border, its deep waters meld with the deep-blue sky. Your base for exploring its islands, waters, and Quechua and Aymara villages is an intimate, luxurious lakeside lodge, with an array of active adventures: kayaking, birding, sailing, and walking through Peru’s rural altiplano (high plain) culture.
