Your safari begins directly from Nairobi. You meet your guides following an early breakfast, and drive south across the extensive Athi Plains to Tsavo West National Park, arriving at Finch Hatton’s luxury tented camp in time for lunch. The camp lies at the foot of the Chyulu Hills, one of the youngest volcanic ranges in the world.

Immediately following lunch, enjoy your first game drive in the magnificent terrain of Tsavo West, one of the largest game parks in the world. Common sightings include lion, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, and plains game.

Following this first adventure, return to camp for a relaxing interlude and dinner.

With a full day to explore Tsavo West National Park, your options are plentiful. Both morning and afternoon game drives are offered, which include trips to the famous Mzima Springs Hippo Pools and the Shetani Lava Flows. Vast herds of elephant raise clouds of red dust; fat pods of hippo wallow lazily in the waters; giant crocodile lurk; teeming herds of plains game are suspended in the distance; a fantasia of birdlife and magical flora awaits to astound you.

The lush, hippo-inhabited pools of Mzima Springs, fed daily by more than 66 million gallons of water gushing from the lava flows of the Chyulu hills, create an oasis of green. For your added enjoyment: an underwater hippo-viewing chamber, two nature trails, and several unique picnic spots.

After breakfast, drive through Tsavo West to Amboseli National Park, and receive a warm welcome at Tortillis Tented Camp. After lunch, enjoy your first game drive in Amboseli with the chance of spotting large herds of elephant and plentiful plains game against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. You are in Hemingway country!

The park is an International Biosphere Reserve featuring the dry lake-bed of prehistoric Lake Amboseli, rolling savannah, and lush green swamps filled with an exciting variety of wildlife―both big game and their natural predators.

The pleasures of the day continue on your return to camp. Consider a swim or visit the camp’s “bush spa.” As the sun sets, enjoy exclusive sundowner cocktails in the splendor of Mount Kilimanjaro, followed by dinner.

Lulled awake by the morning sounds of the bush, perhaps you will choose the option of an early morning guided nature walk, before or after breakfast. Or instead, a morning game drive in the park. The plains are home to antelope, spotted hyena, jackal, warthog, olive baboons, and vervet monkeys, as well as big cats: lion, leopard, and cheetah. Observation Hill, a conical peak that is easily climbed, offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

After lunch (which can be taken as a picnic on safari, should you prefer), experience another game drive or a guided nature walk. Or visit an authentic Maasai village, where displays of dance, song, and cultural pursuits will give you an intimate glimpse into tribal life. The incredible beauty of the tall warrior men chanting and dancing in traditional dress is a sight you will never forget.

A brief return to “civilization.” After breakfast, drive to Nairobi for lunch at the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant. Then, an afternoon flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport brings you to the Masai Mara National Reserve. On landing, you will be met by your safari vehicle and driver, and taken to Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp.

On arrival, relax or take a game drive in this world-famous reserve. With its abundance of herbivores, the Mara makes the ideal hunting ground for Kenya’s famous big cats, and hosts its largest population of lions. It also offers the best chance of spotting a leopard in the wild. Other predators include cheetah and spotted hyena.

Sundowners can be taken in camp or in a scenic location, followed by dinner.

With so much to explore, your two full days in the Mara will be action packed. Morning and afternoon game drives, guided nature walks, and ornithological tours are among your choices.

Teeming with wildlife, the Mara is famous for large herds of elephant and buffalo that meander its plains; also for the pods of hippo that wallow with pleasure in its mud-brown rivers. Other stars include the distinctive Maasai giraffe, plum-colored topi, Coke’s hartebeest, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, bushbuck, waterbuck, and red duiker. The reserve boasts plentiful Nile crocodile, monitor lizard, baboon, vervet, blue- and red-tailed monkeys, nocturnal bush babies, and tree hyrax. With over 550 resident and migratory species of birds, the bird-spotting is spectacular.

Lunch can be taken on safari if you wish, along with sundowner cocktails. Dinner is served in camp.
